CRU Consults on Interim Electricity Network Charges for Energy Storage
The CRU has published a consultation on its minded‑to decision for Interim Electricity Network Charges for Energy Storage.

The proposed interim arrangements would replace the CRU’s previous interim decision from 2020 and would apply ahead of the completion of the CRU’s wider review of electricity network tariffs.
Energy storage is playing an increasingly important role in Ireland’s electricity system. The CRU expects the proposed interim arrangements to deliver overall net benefits for customers by supporting lower electricity prices over time. This could be achieved by enabling energy storage units to store electricity when supply is abundant and release it when demand is higher, helping to reduce balancing costs, curtailment and redispatch.
The CRU also considers that the proposals could support greater integration of indigenous renewable energy, contributing to emissions reductions. In addition, the minded‑to decision aims to strengthen incentives for locating energy storage in ways that reduce the need for network reinforcements and to support increased investment in energy storage to provide key system services.
The CRU welcomes feedback from stakeholders as part of this consultation process. Submissions can be made via the consultation page:
