Over 60,000 customers switched energy suppliers in March, the latest figures published by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) have shown.

Switching activity across both markets remains strong, indicating ongoing customer engagement and competition.

The difference between the highest standard tariff and lowest discount tariff in March was €727 in electricity and €434 in gas.

The Customer Switching Report for March of this year revealed that a total of 46,087 customers switched electricity supplier that month. This represents a 0.22% increase on February 2026 and a 12.30% increase compared to March 2025.

Meanwhile, a total of 13,994 customers switched gas supplier in March. This reflects a 1.56% increase on the previous month and a 9.35% increase year-on-year.

Switching supplier is the best way to save money on your gas and electricity bills.

As of the end of 2024, a domestic customer who switched supplier every year for 4 years would have saved €1,696 in electricity and €741 in gas.

The CRU encourages utility customers to consult accredited switching websites bonkers.ie, powertoswitch.ie or switcher.ie to help them find a better deal.

The figures in the Switching Report for March do not count new connections and contract renegotiations with existing suppliers, ensuring a clear picture of active switching behaviour.
